PIADINA ROMAGNOLA PGI IS AN INCREASINGLY YOUNG AND APPRECIATED FOOD BY ITALIANS AND EUROPEANS.

The production of Piadina Romagnola, in order to be recognized as PGI, is allowed only in the territories of Emilia-Romagna region, between the provinces of Bologna and Rimini. The major productive companies are part of the Consortium of Piadina Romagnola PGI, divided in industrial, artisanal and kiosks.

The industrial production of Piadina Romagna produce an average of 700.000 piadine medium for a day, using the most modern and automatized process, created for this kind of product.

The productive process strictly follows the technical specifications approved by the European Union in 2014, where are specified the modalities, the recipe, the dough composition, the millwork, the cooking and the packaging.

The PGI product is wrapped in ATM, without the use of preservatives or colorings. The shelf life is 60 days, conserved at 4/6°C. The PGI product shelf life ambient (with natural preservatives) is 90 days.

Its freshness, perfume, fragrancy and versatility make the Piadina Romagnola PGI a perfect meal, both with meat and in vegetarian version.

The Piadina Romagnola PGI is part of the category of unleavened bread, the products without yeast present in Mediterranean and South American food cultures. Differently from the Mexican Tortilla, made by corn flour and used as a ‘fast food’, the Piadina Romagnola PGI uses only high quality and certified ingredients, produced in Italy.

The increase and the diffusion of Piadina Romagnola PGI has been confirmed also for the exportations. Germany is the most important partner country and collect the 31% of all the exportations with 118.000 kg in 2019 and an increase of +20% expected for 2020. The presence of Piadina Romagnola PGI is relevant also in Austria (29% of export), United Kingdom and France, while in Romania, Lithuania and USA the market is rapidly developing.

The promotional activity of the Consortium of Piadina Romagnola PGI is addressed to Italy and Germany and it is part of Emilia Romagna Rural Development Programme (RDP) which will end in December 2020.

The mission of Consortium is to defend and promote the originality and the tradition of the Piadina Romagnola against the counterfeiting all over the world. During the years the Consortium has prevented more than 90 attempts of false registration.

In order to promote the Piadina Romagnola PGI in Germany, the Consortium has developed an adv campaign focusing on the quality and the high standard of the Made in Italy production, creating a key visual with a strong headline. The campaign has been part of billboards and press campaign in Germany and Italy, accompanying all the promotional activities of the Consortium.

The selling volume increase in the first 6 years of the Consortium, founded in 2014, has shown the potentiality of the Piadina Romagnola PGI not only in Italy but also in Europe.
